***Conscious Ecstatic Sacred Dance***
What is Ecstatic dancing. I’m going to keep it simple; it is a form of free flow dancing. No specific steps or choreographed movements, no limitations. This conscious sacred dance is done within a scared container where you are safe, accepted and loved to feel your emotions, your body, mind and spirit in order to connect to ‘self’ in a spiritual way through your physical vessel. There is no right or wrong way there is only ‘the way’.
The idea behind ecstatic free flow dance is to allow yourself to access the wisdom of your own body and still the mind. In doing so you create a trance state of ecstasy. This is something that many ancient cultures and traditions have done for thousands of years. Allowing yourself to transcend the beta brain wave state of everyday life into theta brain waves where our creativity and our ecstasy lie.
The benefits are endless, not only is it good exercise for your physical body, but it can also increase energy and vitality and reduce stress, promote self-empowerment, induce joy and dare I say bliss. This is not a space you need to worry about being a good dancer…allow the rhythms to speak to your body allowing it move as it needs to. When you enter the sacred dance space there is no judgment, no worries about being self-conscious just allow the real you, your essence out to play, let your wild child out, let your sexy out, let your emotional and spiritual self the freedom to express and connect with your inner sacred feminine.
Ecstatic dance can be done anywhere but it is the highest intention of mine to create a sacred container where you can feel safe, held and accepted as you are.. no matter what. Let yourself move in anyway you want. If you are a self-conscious person this is a wonderful opportunity to give yourself the gift to be you and practice raising your self confidence in a safe non-judgmental sacred space. You may discover parts of yourself you didn’t even know or reconnect with parts you had forgotten about.
The only guidelines to remember are, no shoes, wear whatever is comfortable that makes you feel good, and be aware of the others around you, drink lots of water before, during and after and the idea is that it’s more of a non-verbal space (body language only once we get started) the reason is so you can move into deep connection with ‘self’. It is generally not a partner type of dancing, rather you are held within a sacred container, within a community of like-minded beautiful souls to express yourself freely. The idea is you are connecting with the deeper you, connecting creatively with your body, your heart, your soul and just having fun in the process. With that said it is completely ok to dance with each other if you both want to..the protocol is if someone wants to ask you to dance that they give a little bow with hand out to the side and if you want to accept you do the same but if you prefer not to just put your hands to your heart and give a little bow letting them know ‘no thank you’. When you want to part ways and return to dancing solo again give a little bow with your hands at your heart indicating your appreciation for the interaction.
When you come into the sacred container you remove your shoes and take a seat in the circle on the floor..the music is already quietly filling the space… we begin by allowing ourselves to settle in and start to connect with the space and yourself, perhaps you may start swaying and feel the vibrations as you are sitting in circle. Once everyone is settled in we will start by expressing gratitude for our time together and inviting our higher selves to express through our physical body in whatever way it wants to..From there we raise the volume and the vibe, stand up enjoy the next 1-2 hours of ecstatic dance. We wind down with a meditation or sound healing period for 15-20 minutes or so then end with a closing circle. Once we begin, the sacred space is closed for anyone else to enter the space.
